Swanson Nominates Area Leaders for Women’s Recognition Brunch

State Representative Dan Swanson of Alpha welcomed area leaders to Springfield on Tuesday for a women’s brunch that honored the contributions of emerging female leaders from throughout the state. Swanson said, “it’s energizing to hear from so many who are working hard to change that narrative.” The three being honored were Nedda Simon, Jennifer Russell and Denise Bradburn. Simon is the founder of Freedom House in Princeton – an organization offering a safe haven for all women and their dependents while providing domestic violence and sexual assault services to our region. Russell is the Founder of Spotlight on Lyme QCA in Aledo to help support people suffering from tick-borne illness. Denise Bradburn – Executive Director of Discovery Depot Children’s Museum in Galesburg that offers engaging, educational programming to children and families throughout the year. The three honorees from Rep. Swanson’s district were part of a group of about 40 emerging female leaders. The group also participated in a discussion about what issues are important for Illinois women and how the General Assembly can help create policies that reflect their priorities.  Swanson added that “This luncheon was designed to bring together these exemplary women leaders and learn about their priorities, feedback and hopes for Illinois’ future.” The leaders were able to watch a portion of Tuesday’s legislative session from the House Gallery, where they were introduced and further honored by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin.

Swanson also announced he, along with State Representative Tony McCombie of Savanna, will be jointly hosting a Graduated Income Tax Town Hall Meeting in Kewanee Wednesday, April 17th. Swanson said the two representatives felt it was important to provide an opportunity for taxpayers to come out for an evening and receive an update on state issues. The night will provide an opportunity for questions and answers about top state issues. Swanson added that “An overview of Governor Pritzker’s proposed Graduated Income Tax will also be provided and input solicited.”

The Graduated Income Tax Town Hall Meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at The Stables: 21-34 US Route 34, in Kewanee from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
