Thrushwood Farms receives international recognition

Thrushwood Farms Quality Meats Inc. in Galesburg won international recognition for their meat products at the German Butcher’s Association – American Association of Meat Processors (Deutscher Fleischer-Verband or DFV-AAMP) Quality Competition for Sausage and Ham recently.The competition was held January 21st – 25th in Madison, Wisconsin. The results from the competition are held in conjunction with the IFFA, the world’s largest meat industry trade fair. IFFA is the leading international trade fair for processing, packaging and sales in the meat industry, and hosts an international meat competition every three years in Frankfurt, Germany. The DFV-AAMP formed a partnership to host a contest in the U.S. so American meat processors can compete on an international level. Thrushwood Farms’ list of awards is extensive. They brought home 18 gold medals total for meats that include: semi-boneless ham, boneless ham, hickory smoked bacon, smoked turkey, summer sausage, Canadian bacon plus many more. Several of their snack stick varieties also won gold. Thrushwood Farms’ received a silver medal for smoked chicken and a bronze for bone-in ham. Organizers of the event sent judges from Germany to conduct the competition in Madison. All entries were graded on appearance, consistency, smell, and taste. The competition received more than 460 entries from 42 companies across the United States. Thrushwood Farms was invited by the German Butchers’ Association to attend a ceremony at the IFFA in Frankfurt on May 7, where they will be awarded their certificates and medals.
