New program works well for Knox County Health Department

The Knox County Health Department has had more than a little success in its first season as the local administrator of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. Health Department Educators Erin Olson and Danielle Kroll say two months worth of appointments with residents seeking help paying their winter-time energy bills were filled within two days, and it’s gone from there. Kroll tells WGIL there might have been a subtle yet shameless second message for residents seeking LIHEAP’s help.

“One of the biggest things has been that Erin and my offices are in the back and each time a client comes through it’s definitely been like they didn’t know about all the different things that were back here and they’re not aware of all that we do.”

In other words, Kroll says, it’s exposing everything the Health Department does to more people. The Health Department says applications for LIHEAP are still being taken through the end of May, which means appointments for help are still being taken through then.
