Monmouth College students uninjured when bus goes off the road

A group of Monmouth College students on their way to a Spring Break service project are unhurt after the bus they were in slid off the road Sunday.

That’s according to a statement from Monmouth College itself. The college says a charter bus carrying 29 students and an advisor who are part of a fellowship program went off the road and into a ditch on Interstate 55 north of Springfield around 10 o’clock Sunday morning — in part to avoid two other accidents on that stretch of roadway as conditions were slick after snowfall.

The college says none of the students on board were hurt, and the bus itself wasn’t damaged. In fact, officials say the bus was able to be pulled out of the ditch and continued on to Memphis, Tennessee after a State Police inspection.

The students in the James and Sybil Stockdale Fellows program will be in Memphis working with Living Lands and Waters to help clean up the Mississippi River.
