Discovery Depot 2nd floor Grand Opening next week.

Denise Brandburn, Executive Director of the Discovery Depot Children’s Museum says it’s been a long process, but the museum’s expansion to the 2nd floor is complete. With a capital campaign that began over four years ago, the building has become more energy efficient, more structurally sound, and is also loaded with plenty of new exhibits. “Our last renovation, we had opened the main floor with new exhibits at the end of 2013,” Bradburn said. “We started engaging in this process in 2015. Consultants told us that we were crowded and need more space. We started from that point and made a plan – kind of, from the beginning with the founders (of the museum). When they purchased that building, it was always their dream to have that second floor full of exhibits, and now, 23 years later, we’re realizing that dream.” The expansion onto the 2nd floor of the museum incorporates a sizable water exhibit area called “WAVES” and several additional exhibits including a one-of-a-kind climber and an interactive artistic screen. The 1st floor features new exhibits like “Beyond the Farm.” New air exhibits are also featured on the 2nd floor. A ribbon cutting will be held Tuesday, February 26th at 3:00 pm and the museum will be open later on Tuesday so folks can come and see the new expansion.
