County Board approves slew of solar farms

The Knox County Board approved a handful of solar farm conditional use permits at last night’s meeting, including one adjacent to the ROWVA school district.

In the past, Superintendent Joe Sornberger had told WGIL that the district would save around a million dollars over a 20 year period because of the lower electrical rate from the panels.

Zoning Board Chair John Hunnigan told the board that 93-percent of the district’s electrical needs would be coming from the solar garden, which would output at 360KW.

Also approved was a 2MW solar farm at 414 Knox Road 2300 East near Yates City, and two 2MW solar farms at 1440 Knox Highway 32 near Galesburg.

All solar farm votes were approved unanimously.
