Former Knox County resident charged with abusing foster children in 1980’s

The Illinois State Police is just now releasing details into an investigation that resulted in an arrest last October of a former Galesburg resident who’s accused of abusing children in his care decades ago.

Troopers say 70-year-old Dennis Donnelly was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona last October 15th, on a Knox County warrant charging him with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, Criminal Sexual Assault, and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

Officials say in May of last year the State Police received a complaint stating that Donnelly abused a foster child under the age of 13 back in the Mid-1980’s. Donnelly was believed to be a foster parent to numerous children between the 80’s and early 2000’s.

The investigation led them to Phoenix, and troopers say while investigating a crime from more than 30 years ago is challenging, they’re committed to victims of violent crime.

Donnelly is expected to be extradited back to Knox County this week, and that the investigation is continuing. The State Police says anyone with information to provide should call 309-948-1881.

Bond on the warrant is $100,000.
