Knoxville Council discusses properties and natural gas.

Knoxville Aldermen on Monday, February 4th held a discussion on a pair of city-owned properties and what to do with them. The first property sits at 610 South Division Street – the city acquired it in 2015 and demolished a dilapidated house. The property apparently has a lien on it worth over $11,000. The other property sits on the 100 block of East Ann Street. Back in 2003 two plats were surveyed and the property lines run through the middle of East Ann Street – so it was determined that the 100 block of East Ann Street shouldn’t exist. Council decided to have each property appraised before taking the next course of action – which would most likely be to have them listed.

The City of Knoxville natural gas contract renewal was also discussed by Knoxville aldermen. A year ago, the council approved a one-year contract with Vanguard Energy Services for natural gas.  The current contract expires in May, and the city was contacted by Rock River Energy Services to renew services. The city currently pays .34 per therm. The current rate for Vanguard is .352 per therm, and Ameren’s rate is currently .3963 per therm. Ultimately the council decided to go with Constellation Energy and will be locked in for 24 months at .31 per therm.

The Council also held a discussion on the new 2018-2019 Wheel Tax Sticker design. Most recently, the council used the Old Shell Station on Main and Broad as the design. Other Knoxville sites used have included the Knox County Nursing Home, high school, the Veteran’s Memorial, the Knox County Fair, and many of the churches in town. It was decided to feature Community Bible Church as the new design.

The council also approved the closure of Main Street in downtown Knoxville on March 17th from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
