February is Hearth Health Month. In an effort to get the public to better understand their own health, OSF Healthcare St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg is hosting a free health fair event Friday, February 1st. Held in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit, the health fair will feature blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, body mass index calculations, and diabetes education. Carrie McCance is the Community Relations Coordinator for OSF. “Probably 25 different booths all for Heart Health Month (will be there),” McCance said. “What I love about this event: it’s free, (and) it allows people to come and go as they please, it’s more like an open house.” Plus there will be booths set up for cholesterol screenings – for $20 apiece, exercise and personal wellness programs, nutrition, and stroke education. The Knox County YMCA, the Knox County Health Department, and the City of Galesburg Recreation Department will also be on hand. The event is free, but you are encouraged to register beforehand for door prizes at 344-94-02. The health fair will run Friday, February 1st from 7:00 am to 10:30 am.
