FC Galesburg Warriors are growing; wanting to host matches

FC Galesburg is a US Club Soccer program based here and town. The club’s purpose is to enhance individual and team soccer skills throughout Galesburg and the surrounding areas. The program began out of the Knox County YMCA and incorporated traveling into the program. It’s intended for youth from 5 years old to 19 years old. President Kirk Mustain says the Galesburg team is starting to catch up with the other area teams in regards to experience together. “Here in town, when I started playing at Galesburg High School, that was the first time we all started playing together,” Mustain said. “These other (teams) they were so dominant because they had been playing together their whole lives. It just makes more sense to combine everybody at an earlier age.” The FC Galesburg Warriors is one of the most diverse teams in the league. Part of the challenge – the team plays all their matches on the road. “The funny thing is, we’d play Macomb in Moline and they’d have to drive through Galesburg.,” he added. “So it makes all the sense in the world. And hopefully, we can add Peoria teams to meet and play here too.” The team has been approved to host but in order to do so, they need to raise money for league regulation goals.
