Knox County unemployment and labor force take hit

Knox County’s unemployment rate went up and labor force went down in December, seeing an amplified version of what an Illinois as a whole experienced.Illinois and Knox County saw unemployment jump about a point year over year for December, and both lost people seeking work.

But the local economy got worse results than the average Illinois county.

Most of our neighboring counties saw higher unemployment but saw a logical modest increase in those looking for work

Those include Warren, Henry, and Fulton Counties.

Illinois Department of Employment Security says that jobs are being created with year over year positive movement in twelve metro areas, with the Quad Cities area one of the biggest gainers.

Sectors leading the growth include transportation, warehousing and utilities and education and health services.
