New year – new and returning local activities.

Is your new year’s resolution to learn something new? Art Defined in Galesburg is offering a class today where you keep what you make. Learn to make a bowl with Wheel Throwing 101 Friday, January 4th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The cost is $35 dollars – visit their website to sign up.

It’s another weekend full of children’s activities at Discovery Depot Children’s Museum in Galesburg. Friday, January 4th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm kids can come and make snowman cups – the cost is free with a general admission fee. Saturday, January 5th kids can create Earth Day discovery bottles from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm – the cost is one dollar plus a general admission fee. Sunday is Bead Bonanza where kids can make their own look and style from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm – the cost is one dollar plus regular admission.
Sunday, January 6th is also Carl Sandburg’s 141st birthday. Central Congregational Church in Galesburg is hosting a Carl Sandburg Birthday Celebration from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Sunday. Songs from Sandburg’s American Songbook will be featured during the event.

Ducky’s Formal Wear in Galesburg is hosting a Wedding Planning Event on Sunday, January 6th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Visions Venue. The afternoon will feature advice, tips, ideas and other wedding-planning services. Visions Venue is located at 2093 Knox Road 150 East.
A slew of community blood drives hits the area at the beginning of the week. A community blood drive for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will be at Hy-Vee on North Henderson Street Monday, January 7th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. If you can’t make it out to that one, head over to Hy-Vee on East Main where the MVRBC Donor Bus will be taking donations from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Another community blood drive will be held Wednesday at the OSF Holy Family Wellness Classroom in Monmouth from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
