$25,000 bond for Galesburg man on a meth possession charge

Bond was set at $25,000 for a Galesburg man in Knox County Circuit Court on a methamphetamine possession charge Wednesday afternoon.

34-year-old Nicholas M. Yoho had a detention hearing with Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh who set bond and appointed the public defender to represent him.

Yoho was arrested Tuesday night by Galesburg Police after 3.6 grams of a crystal substance that later field tested positive for methamphetamine was allegedly found hidden in between two pairs of socks he was wearing.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that Yoho was riding passenger in. A Knox County K9 Unit performed a free air sniff test, which alerted to the vehicle.

The driver was searched, yielding nothing. Officers then searched Yoho, finding the substance.

According to police reports, Yoho had told officers he was on probation but didn’t elaborate. During his detention hearing, Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops said that he was on parole for unlawful restraint and domestic battery.

Yoho is extended term eligible. Meaning if he is sentenced he could face between five and ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Yoho’s next court date will be December 3rd for a bond rehearing. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 17th.
