Brown, Keith Jr.

Keith Brown, Jr., 85 of Hermon, passed away at 2:42 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born February 16, 1933 in Table Grove, the son of Keith and Gladys Marie (Gossage) Brown.  He married Shirley Pigg on June 24, 1954 in Lewistown.

Keith is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley; his children, Carl E. (and Tanya) Brown of Wapello, Iowa, Gladys (and Bill) Head of Oquawka, Rita (and Rodney) Hook of Abingdon, Julie Brown of Abingdon and Danny (and Tracey) Brown of Gilson; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 on the way; 1 great-great-grandson; two brothers, Carl (and Pat) Brown of Hermon and Ivan (and Nancy) Brown of Smithfield; and one sister, Dorla Kruzan of Canton.  He is also survived by his faithful dog friend, Babe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, George, Howard and Max, one sister, Melva Johns, and one grandson, Jeff Brown.

He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956.  He had lived in Hermon since 1974.  He worked as a caster at the Abingdon Pottery for 39 years, retiring in 1998.

After his retirement, he worked for area farmers and helped his son, Danny, at Jay’s Salvage.  He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.  His hobbies included fishing at the Mississippi River and gardening. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them all.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel.  Rev. Danny Hunt will officiate.  Burial with military rites will be at Baughman Cemetery near Smithfield.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel.
