Galesburg man charged with possession of stolen firearm

A 27-year-old Galesburg man made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on possession of a stolen firearm, a Class 2 Felony.

Nicholas L. Mackey had his bond set at $10,000 by Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh and the public defender’s office appointed in his case.

It is alleged by Galesburg Police that they located a .22 Ruger in a vehicle being driven by Mackey during the time of a traffic stop. Officers later learned it had been reported stolen out of Peoria County.

When asked about how he acquired it Mackey told police he got it from Peoria, but wouldn’t disclose if he bought it or it was stolen.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 27th in his case.
