County board members seek help with Mary Davis Home appropriations

The chair of the Knox County committee that oversees the Mary Davis Home is making efforts to keep the home fully funded after it was revealed earlier in the year that the state was cutting appropriations.

Board member Bob Bondi informed the board at last month’s meeting that the state had cut appropriations to the Mary Davis home significantly, to the tune of almost $377,936 .

In a letter to state legislators that represent the county, Bondi says that that the board, quote, “Does not have the options either of reducing the number of reimbursable positions nor adjusting their salaries to cope with this shortfall.”

The letter was sent to Representatives Norine Hammond and Dan Swanson, and State Senators Jil Tracy and Chuck Weaver.

According to the letter, the Home employs 35 people, with 28 of those employees’ salaries being reimbursable from the State of Illinois.

Bondi says in the letter that if the funding is not restored, cuts will be required in other areas of operation for the county.
