Drives, programs and benefits make up another fun fall weekend

Friends of the Galesburg Public Library is holding a Fall Book Sale starting this Friday, October 12th. Friday, the sale is from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, October 13th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and again Monday, October 15th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. It’s October, which means candy is on the mind of many. Friday (12th) and Saturday (13th) are Lions Candy Days. Galesburg Noon Lions Club members will be out at several locations giving away mints and counting on donations to help the sight and hearing impaired in the community.

Spooky trails and houses return for another weekend of scares and chills. Shadows Realm Haunted House returns to 2015 Windish Drive organized by Gilson Boy Scout Troop 233. Starting Friday October 12th at 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the cost is $10 – fast passes are $15 with a percentage of ticket sales going to KCCDD. Shadows Realm will be held every Friday and Saturday until October 27th.
The Walk of the Dead Haunted Trail behind Lakeside Splashzone in Galesburg also returns Friday October 12th and Saturday October 13th. Organized by AGES Community, the Walk of the Dead is from 7:00 pm until midnight – cost is $15 and $10 for kids 10 and under.

If the chilly temperatures this weekend isn’t a clear indication of fall, the 2nd weekend of the Knox County Scenic Drive and Spoon River Drive is. Saturday October 13th and Sunday October 14th, both drives continue the self-guided tour navigating the small towns of both Knox and Fulton Counties. Building and sites on the National Register of Historic Places, food vendors, flea markets, demonstrations and much more is more than enough to fill up your weekend schedule. Visit www.knoxcountyscenicdrive.com and www.spoonriverdrive.org for all the stops and information.

A seasonal and educational program is being held Saturday, October 14th at Discovery Depot Children’s Museum in Galesburg.  Kids can explore and learn about the parts of a pumpkin from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Admission is $1 plus regular admission.

Also Saturday, October 13th, an event to benefit Hazel Stewart of Galesburg is being held at Cactus Country at 3075 West Main Street in Galesburg. Proceeds from the benefit and Five Stop Benefit Run will help Hazel with her treatment after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Held from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the benefit includes a pulled pork dinner, bake sale, silent auction and 50/50 drawing.
