Walk of the Dead returns tonight

The Walk of the Dead Haunted Trail returns tonight. Located behind Lakeside Splashzone the wooded trails near Lake Storey will be loaded with haunted spooks and thrills. The Haunted Trail is organized by the AGES Community – which stands for Actively Growing, Educating, and Sustaining Community. Founded in 2012, AGES Community is also largely involved in Toys for Knox County and the FISH Food Pantry. Organizers Sean and Sherry Godsil tell WGIL the Haunted Trail is an opportunity for kids. “The way that we’re making this work, we use the Haunt to teach life skills to kids,” Sherry said. “You go and help us build a set – now you have some carpentry skills that you may not have had at 13, 14, 15 years old. We’ve been doing this for nine years. We’ve got kids that have gone on to construction and different lines of work and then come back and say that they wouldn’t have had interest in if not for AGES.” Proceeds from the Haunted Trail go towards the Galesburg Nature Center and the Galesburg Parks and Recreation Department. The cost of the Walk of the Dead is $15 per person – and $10 for kids 10 and under. Sherry says there’s a reason there’s special pricing for kids 10 and under. “You need to keep in mind that they are going to be seeing, and feeling, and hearing things that they’ve never felt before, and their willingness to participate is going to diminish really quickly,” Sherry added. “It really depends on the kid, and it depends on the situation, and it’s something you need to talk to your kid about before you bring them out. It starts at the very beginning and I don’t think most people realize that – they’re in line and they’re upset that we’re picking on their child….(keep in mind) this is a haunted house.…” The Walk of the Dead is held every Friday and Saturday in October from 7:00 pm until Midnight and will end the weekend of October 26th and 27th. The trail will not be open on Halloween. Visit AGEScommunity.org or the Walk of the Dead page on Facebook.
