International leadership experience coming to Galesburg next week

Galesburg residents next week can participate in a leadership conference that’s being simulcast at locations around the world.

Live2Lead will bring attendees live talks given by renowned leaders of different stripes like John Maxwell, Tyler Perry, Carly Fiorina, and Daniel Pink

Optometrist Pete Kehoe and his daughter Kate are responsible for bringing this event to Galesburg.

“I keep hearing over and over about how there’s nothing in Galesburg and we just don’t have the things that the bigger cities have,” Pete tells WGIL. “At first we thought well let’s bring this over to Peoria and the more we thought about it, [it made more sense to ] bring it to our community because there’s a lot of really good stuff going on in Galesburg right now.”

Pete and Kate Kehoe, organizers of Galesburg’s edition of the event, are certified through “John Maxwell’s” leadership program.

“What we’ve found was that it really allows you to develop your personal skills that allow you to develop your team. Whether that’s a team of two in your family or whether that’s a team of 5,000 in an organization. ”

Kate insists this event is for everyone.

Particularly John Maxwell challenges people to step outside their comfort zone to grow, which Kehoe says is applicable to people at any age in any profession.

This event doesn’t lead to certification but organizers are promising that you’ll leave with “renewed passion and commitment” in leading your life.

Kate says already organizations like Dick Blick, DD Homes and Seminary Village have committed to sending staff members, as well as Carl Sandburg College sending 20 students.

Pete adds that he can facilitate organizations interested in setting up an abbreviated version of the conference at a later date.

The cost is $59 but students and those who work in education are being offered a special price of $25. There are also tickets for VIP networking breakfast and lunches which are $150.

The speakers will be live in Atlanta that day and Galesburg attendees can experience all the talks from 8 a.m. to noon, next Friday, Oct. 12.
