Long-rumored retailer makes Galesburg arrival official

When contacted earlier in the year, the parent company for a department store more or less said they weren’t coming to Galesburg. The rumors persisted, and now, they’re official.

A sign on Henderson Street in front of the old Wal-Mart store confirms that a Marshall’s store will be the latest store to locate in the former Wal-Mart location on National Boulevard, next to Hy Vee. It’s the fifth retailer to officially be a tenant of what is now Galesburg Crossings.

Attempts to contact Marshall’s parent company, TJ Maxx, have so far been unsuccessful, so as to find out details as to when the store may open and how many jobs may be created. When contacted in February, all the company would say was that no announcement was being made. The Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development later confirmed that Pet Smart, Marshalls, Five Below, and Harbor Freight Tools signed long-term leases.

Five Below and Harbor Freight have already opened. Pet Smart is rumored to be opening soon, but attempts to contact them have also been unsuccessful. All that, though, would leave one more potential retailer for Galesburg Crossings.

Meanwhile, Knox County Brewing Company has said on social media that the latest locally-operated brewery will have a grand opening October 20th at their West Main Street location.
