County Board to consider moving forward with energy savings project, more solar projects

The Knox County Board meets tonight for their monthly meeting where they’ll consider approving a resolution for a request for qualifications for assistance in guaranteed energy savings project.

The project has – up to this point – been facilitated by SmartWatt to help make county owned property more energy efficient – which would then lower utility costs.

The next step in the process is to bid the work to see if SmartWatt is the best priced firm to complete the project.

The Knox County Board could approve a pair of conditional use permits for the operation of two 2-megawatt solar farms at tonight’s board meeting.

One conditional permit is for 230 Knox Highway 11 in Williamsfield and was filed by Geronimo Energy under Elba Solar LLC.

The other permit was filed by AES Distributed Energy for farms located at 174 and 175 St. Joe Road, Galesburg.

Both permits were approved by the zoning board of appeals and are presented to the county board with a recommendation to approve.

The county board could approve several items from the Finance Committee meeting last week, including the election judge pay increase, health department food safety ordinance change, and telecommunications audit agreement.

The board could also approve increases to the Nursing Home’s semi-private room rate and meal ticket costs.

The board meets tonight at 6:00 at the Galesburg City Council chambers.
