Bustos talks Farm Bill

17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos believes there’s plenty on consensus on a new Farm Bill. The Democrat said there’s one holdout—House Republicans—and the work requirement issue involving the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. She spoke on the subject following a visit last week to a Quad City area farm. Bustos listed the items that are important to her. “To make sure we have a good crop insurance program in there for our family farmers,” Bustos said. “We need that. It’s the number one ask that they’ve made of me. To make sure we have a vaccine bank for hog farmers. To make sure we have a powerful rural development program – something that helps our smaller towns that includes getting broadband to 23 million Americans.” She added that she hopes the President would want what’s best for the heartland of America which is to pass the Farm Bill. The current Farm Bill is set to expire on September 30th. Bustos, along with Illinois House colleagues John Shimkus and Rodney Davis, serve on the Farm Bill Conference Committee.
