District #205 approves FY 2018/19 budget, sees huge surplus

After hearing a presentation regarding the fiscal year 2018/19 budget, the District 205 School Board approved it at Monday night’s meeting.

Jennifer Hamm, the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, went over details of the budget during a hearing prior to the monthly meeting and gave a positive outlook.

“This is the first budget presentation in four years that I’ve been able to present at District 205 that has kind of a nice little ‘glimmer of hope’ in terms of the state actually ceasing proration, the state paying all of their bills in a relatively timely manner, and some incremental increases in evidence-based funding model,” Hamm told the board.

While some funds were looking at running a deficit, Hamm said that overall the district was looking at a surplus of $1.5M

“So, at the end of the day, we’re going to see about $51.6-million in revenue, 50.1-million in expenses. Which should leave us throughout all of our funds with a $1.5-million surplus.”

Hamm said that the budget was helping the district move towards goals established by the board last year.

The board approved the budget for both the whole district, and the Galesburg Area Vocational Center.
