GPD seizes over 100 grams of cocaine on Saturday

A Galesburg man, who was arrested on domestic battery and later charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine over the weekend, made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Monday.

41-year-old Jerome G. Jackson appeared before Judge Raymond A. Cavanaugh, where the public defender’s office was appointed to represent him in the case.

Judge Cavanaugh informed Jackson that bond had been set in the misdemeanor domestic battery case at $25,000. Jackson was also informed that a misdemeanor criminal damage to property charge was filed against him from March of this year. There was no bail set for that charge.

Jackson faces four felony drug charges, the most severe being a Class X Manufacture/Delivery of Cocaine, which carries a 6-30 year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He also faces a Class 1 Possession of a Controlled Substance, and two counts of Class 3 Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis under 500 grams. In that case, bail had been set at $150,000.

According to police reports, officers and members of the Special Operations Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500-block of West South Street Saturday morning where Jackson had been living.

In the kitchen, officers found a  black digital scale with white powder residue, around 114.2 grams of cannabis, and bags of a white powder substance. Officers also found a plastic baggie containing cocaine in the bedroom of the house.

In total officers found 73.2 grams of powder cocaine, and 28.1 grams of crack cocaine – all of which field tested positive.

Police officers spoke with Jackson at the Knox County Jail and noted he was uncooperative regarding the narcotics in the home. He told police at one point that he “bought it here,” but then later told officers his girlfriend purchased it in Peoria.

Jackson had been arrested earlier in the day on domestic battery.

In total, Jackson needs 10% of $175,000, or $17,500, to get out of jail.

A preliminary hearing was set for October 1st at 2:00 p.m. in the felony case.
