Knox and Monmouth again move up in rankings of U.S. liberal arts colleges

U.S. News and World Report has released their 2019 rankings of the best liberal arts college in the country.Knox College came in at #68 an improvement of 9 places over their ranking last year.

Monmouth is farther down the list ranked at #135, but that marks a 11 point jump from the last list.

Hard objective data alone determines the rankings, which can paint an incomplete picture of an institution’s strengths and weaknesses, something Monmouth President Clarence Wyatt admits but, the improvements in the rankings suggest improvement for the institutions.

16 metrics of academic success are measured, using the publication’s researched judgment on what matters most in a college.

Weighed most heavily is outcomes for students, things like graduation and retention rate and social mobility or how well institutions are graduating students from lower income backgrounds.

Knox has consistently been higher in these rankings for years, but there are some measurements in which Monmouth is their mirror.

Both have a starting average salary for alumni of about $46,000 and both schools students on average leave with around $32,000 in debt.
