Crossfit Wig Wag opening soon in Galesburg

Knox County residents will soon be able to do CrossFit with a much shorter drive.

It was announced Wednesday through the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development that CrossFit Wig Wag will be opening on South Henderson Street sometime soon.

North Peoria couple Aleks Ratajczak and Maverick Rassmussen are opening at 77 S. Henderson St, sharing the same building with Academy of Shear Performance cosmetology school that opened recently.

She says work to be done inside the building is minimal, mentioning some electric work.

Ratajczak describes CrossFit as basically “group fitness on steroids.”

The class is daily programmed and lead by a certified Crossfit coach, which both of the owners are.

Aleks says she knew of one Galesburg man who traveled to the round trip to Peoria for Crossfit’s unique workout.

“Since we have gotten further into our planning and everything, we have found that there [are] lots of people that do this,” Ratajczak tells WGIL. “So it has kind of been enlightening. I didn’t know that as many people do it as I had expected.”

She says part of the appeal is around the sense of team building and community that so many Crossfit participants talk about.

Explaining the name, “CrossFit Wig Wag” Ratajczak says that franchisees send in three names for consideration and they were looking for a railroad theme. “My fiance was Googling and wigwag is a nickname for an old railroad crossing signal.” She said they thought it was funny and put it in there as a preference, and that was the name that was picked.

Aleks says Crossfit can be competitive but it’s also a supportive environment where the last person to finish is usually who gets cheered on the most.

She says work to be done inside the building is minimal mentioning some electric work.

They do not have an opening set quite yet, but they will announce that soon on their Facebook page.
