Bond set in Peoria man’s felony domestic battery case

Bond was set at $50,000 for a 29-year-old man in Knox County Court on Tuesday afternoon on felony charges of domestic abuse of a pregnant woman, and criminal damage to government property under $10,000.

Aaron M. Evans of Peoria made a video appearance with Judge James Standard who set bail with the stipulation that Evans have no contact with the 27-year-old victim.

According to reports, officers were called out to the 1500-block of McKnight for a domestic abuse call. Once on scene, officers found the 7-month pregnant woman secured in a vehicle in the parking lot. The alleged offender, Evans, was said to be in an apartment.

She would tell police that Evans hit her with his fists several times in the head, and a large knot was observed on her left side.

Officers noted in the reports that Evans was destroying the property inside the residence.

He allegedly came out of the apartment carrying a knife, but would drop it. He was apprehended, and officers noted he had cuts on his forehead and knuckles, which was believed to have been caused while he was destroying the apartment. Blood was observed throughout the inside of the apartment and all over the items that had been knocked over and destroyed.

The property is owned and operated by the Knox County Housing Authority. According to the report, the gas had to be turned off for fear that the gas line inside the apartment was torn. It was not indicated in the report if that was the case.

Fire personnel attempted to treat Evan’s lacerations, but he was hostile toward anyone who got close to him. He was transported to the Knox County Jail, but then taken to OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.

At St. Mary’s he was allegedly hostile toward nursing staff – making threats of violence. Reports indicate he stated that no one was to touch him except for the doctor, but it was also noted that he grew angry when the doctor made him wait.

The hospital eventually discharged him without medical treatment, and Evans was taken back to the jail.

A preliminary hearing in his case was scheduled for September 24th.
