Heavy rains the big problem with Tuesday storms

Some parts of the Midwest got some damage and even reports of potential tornadoes from storms Tuesday and Tuesday night, but the main problems seemed to be heavy rain.

That’s based on storm reports submitted to the National Weather Service. Many parts of Central Illinois got anywhere from an inch-and-a-half to three inches of rain, either last night or in a 24 hour period.

Storm spotters in Galesburg reported the city got about 2.25 inches of rain in 24 hours as of Wednesday morning. Knoxville got just under two inches of rain in that same timeframe, while Altona got a little more than two inches. Canton reported close to 2.5 inches of rain.

Part of the Peoria area near Bradley University got almost four inches of rain — the largest total in the region.

There were some scattered reports of power outages and some debris damage, but nothing major in the immediate area.

More rain is in the forecast for Galesburg, the Weather Service says, Friday through Sunday.
