County Board could approve new jail security system

The Knox County Board could approve a new security system for the county jail at Wednesday night’s meeting.

The item was brought to the county’s attention at this month’s Building Committee meeting. There Sheriff David Clague informed committee members that the current system has had several failures in the last month causing the electronic door locks to go offline. He said that when the system would go down it would force jail staff to use a lock and key method, greatly reducing the response time of staff to an emergency.

Board documents indicate that the cost to replace the system will be to the tune of $148,000 and would be installed by Security Automation Systems.

New additions to the system include audio communication and optional recording system equipment, touch screen control system, video recording equipment, and data-logging server.

Approval of building evaluation proposals for all county owned property could also be done tonight. Cody Basham with Klingner and Associates presented the Building Committee with proposals at their July meeting. Each proposal would inspect property’s structure as well as HVAC units, water boilers, hot water fixtures and condensing units.

Also on the agenda are approvals of a handful of Zoning Board of Appeals cases. Which include a conditional use permit to operate a vehicle repair garage in rural Oneida, as well as a pair of permits for the construction and operation of a wind data collection tower. One tower in Ontario Township and the other in Henderson Township.

The Knox County Board meets at the Galesburg City Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m.
