Victims in Monmouth plane crash identified

The two people who were in a plane that crashed Sunday near the Monmouth Municipal Airport have been identified.

Warren County Coroner Al McGuire says the plane’s pilot — 65-year-old Robert V. Burkhart of Peoria — and a passenger — 72-year-old Roger D. Lundeen of Galesburg — were both found inside the plane and pronounced dead at the scene.  Autopsies preliminarily indicate the two died from crash-related injuries.

McGuire says Burkhart’s plane is hangared normally in Galesburg.

The plane Burkhart and Lundeen were in crashed in a brush area about a half-mile northeast of the Monmouth Municipal Airport around 11 am Sunday.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been handed the investigation.

The Lundeen who died in the plane crash is not the same Roger Lundeen who is general manager of WGIL.
