Suspect identified in shots fired incident at Railroad Days

Galesburg Police have named a person of interest in connection to Saturday night’s shooting incident at the Railroad Days carnival, and it isn’t the person some have identified as the suspect in social media.

Police Chief David Christensen says authorities are seeking an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Latrell Anthony Patterson.

Christensen tells WGIL Patterson is believed to have been a part of a fight that led up to gunshots being fired around 9:30 pm Saturday.

“About time the officer [who had been on patrol at Railroad Days] heard the commotion, we also started getting phone calls from people in the area about a disturbance, and it seems it was just that,” says Christensen. “It started out as a disagreement between two groups that degraded into some sort of a fist fight. The information we’re getting is one of the participants in this fight went and retrieved a firearm from a nearby vehicle, and that’s when the shots were fired.”

You can see a picture of Patterson in this story. If you have information to provide, you can call Galesburg Police or the Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers hotline and make an anonymous report.

Other than Saturday’s incident, and a similar incident Thursday night where no shots were fired but three people including one juvenile were arrested, Christensen says there were no other incidents of note to report from a police standpoint.

HEAR MORE FROM CHIEF CHRISTENSEN MONDAY NIGHT AT 5:10PM ON GALESBURG’S EVENING NEWS.
