205 to consider Steele playground renovation bid, commissioning a new building study

The District 205 Board of Education looks to be busy at their June meeting on Monday night.

The school board could approve a bid from Play Illinois L-L-C to revamp the playground at Steele Elementary school on West Main Street.

The proposal includes several new slides, climbing apparatuses, and more fun activities for kids all at an estimated cost of $83,763.95.

Board documents indicate that along with the new equipment, instillation and rubber mulch provided by Monkebar Builders will cost the district $34,670, a perimeter fence being installed by Peoria Fencing is estimated to cost $40,000 and a concrete border will be poured for between $20,000 and $25,000 .

The board will also look to approve several other items, including the proposed board goals for the next school year.

Those goals include performing curriculum audits of all subjects and grade levels, and creating a pre-k through 12th grade writing and public speaking rubric within the district curriculum.

Approval for the commission of a new building study to be competed by Legat Architects could be given Monday night as well.

The District’s Building and Grounds Committee and administration completed their review of proposals from architects and recommended the architectural firm.

Legat Architects are based out of Chicago with offices in Gurnee, Oak Brook, and Moline as well as Columbus, Ohio.

Also on the agenda is the approval of an intergovernmental agreement with the Knox-Warren Special Education District.

The special-ed district will supply eligible Galesburg students with occupational and physical therapy, as well as hearing and vision services at a charge of $50 per service hour provided.

The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Education Center on Harrison Street.
