About two weeks ago 31 choir students from Monmouth-Roseville High School traveled to New York City for what was already expected to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
But they didn’t expect to come back with a small slice of fame.
Choir Director Kevin Ferry says the main goal of the trip was for the Monmouth-Roseville students to perform along Monmouth College choirs at Carnegie Hall. They also ended up singing at the 9/11 Memorial.
Ferry explains any event the choir travels to perform at they sing on the bus, as a chance to warm-up and practice.
He had been joking tongue-in-cheek that they should sing on the plane ride to The Big Apple.
When they asked a flight attendant if it was ok, Ferry says there was no hesitation before they said yes.
Spread throughout the plan the choir sang Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen with a few strangers sprinkled in.
A parent took a video of the performance which has been viewed over 1 million times.
