Second arrest in Macomb pet store animal deaths investigation

Police in Macomb say a second person has been arrested in connection with the investigation into dozens of both live and dead animals being found inside a closed pet store.

Authorities say 68-year-old Michael Law has been arrested on multiple counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. Police believe Law was an employee of Macomb Pet Land, and after the store closed, was allegedly in charge of taking care of the animals inside.

Over the weekend, authorities recovered 41 dead animals and 56 live ones — all of varying species.

The store’s owner — 38-year-old Jessica Spangler of Avon — also faces Aggravated Cruelty to Animals charges.

Both Spangler and Law are said to be out of jail after posting 10-percent of a $100,000 bond.

The charges each could result in as much as three years in prison per count if convicted.
