Alpha post office to be renamed after fallen soldier

The U.S. Post Office in Alpha could soon be renamed after a fallen North Henderson soldier killed in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Captain Joshua E. Steele was an Alexis High School Graduate who graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in geological engineering in 2002.

He joined the U-S Army and after deployment in Iraq and the Republic of Georgia, served in Afghanistan where a roadside bomb took his life on June 17th, 2007.

Legislation introduced by Congresswoman Cheri Bustos would see the Alpha Post Office named the “Captain Joshua E. Steele Post Office” as a way to commemorate and recognize his sacrifice back in his community.

In a press release from Bustos, she says “Captain Joshua E. Steele was a courageous American hero who led a selfless life dedicated to the love of his family and his country. The sacrifice he made to protect our freedoms should never be forgotten which is why I am pushing to rename the Post Office in Alpha, Illinois, in his memory.”

This follows similar legislation sponsored by the Congresswoman, which saw the Fairview Post Office named after another fallen hero, Sgt. Douglas Riney.
