Bond has been set for a man arrested Monday night on numerous charges stemming from an interrupted 911 call.

29-year-old Aaron M. Evans of Peoria made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Tuesday with Judge James Standard.

Court records indicate that Evans has been charged with two felony counts of robbery, as well as felony counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, and aggravated battery. Additional misdemeanor charges include domestic battery, interfering with reporting domestic violence, criminal damage to property, and fleeing/eluding police officers. Bail was set at $35,000 by Judge Standard.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of McKnight Street on Monday at 7:08 p.m. after a call from a woman attempting to report domestic violence was cut off.

While en route, officers were notified that the subject, Evans, was departing in a gold Chevrolet Malibu. The Malibu and Evans were allegedly spotted by officers and a pursuit began, taking police down Monmouth Boulevard to Brooks Street. Officers were than notified to terminate the pursuit and did so.

Officers returned to the residence on McKnight and spoke with the pregnant, 27-year-old victim. She informed officers that Evans and her argued over his desire to take her vehicle, which was registered in her name. She told officers that he tried taking the keys, and when she resisted he allegedly struck her, punching her repeatedly in the stomach.

She had attempted to call police to report the battery, but he tackled her – allegedly taking her phone and breaking it.

The Malibu was found abandoned in the 300-block of North Broad Street. Evans was arrested at the residence on McKnight Street after he returned at a later time.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 21st.
