Another section of U.S. 34 going under construction this weekend

Another section of U.S. Highway 34 will be shutting down Sunday, May 6th, to repair a damaged bridge.

According to a press release from the Illinois Department of Transportation, the westbound lanes will be closed on 34 under Lincoln Park Drive at 6:00 a.m. and will are expected to be reopened at 8:30 p.m. that night after crews remove and replace a damaged beam section of the bridge.

Traffic through that area will be detoured around the work zone using North Seminary Street, East Carl Sandburg Drive, and U.S. 150 (Henderson Street)

Motorists should expect delays and allow themselves extra time for trips through the area. IDOT suggests avoiding the work area, if feasible, and using alternative routes should be considered.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changing conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, stay alert for workers and equipment, and refrain from using a mobile device.
