GPD investigating string of weekend thefts from motor vehicles

This weekend several vehicles in Galesburg were reportedly broken into and in almost all of the cases personal belongings were taken.

Friday morning at 7:28 a.m. officers were called out to the 700-block of East Grove Street for a call of a theft from a motor vehicle.

The victim told officers she had parked her van in her driveway the night before. She said she left her purse in the vehicle and left it unsecured.

She said that when she went out the next morning her purse was gone. The purse contained $265 in cash, her drivers license, and the social security cards for her and her children.

Additionally officers found a checkbook that did not belong to her in the van.

Another call of theft came at 8:28 a.m. from the 1300-block of East Losey Street.

There the complainant told officers that all that was taken from the unsecured vehicle was loose change. Additionally the contents of the glove box had been removed and left on the passenger front seat.

The third call of the day came at 9:30 p.m. from the Park Plaza parking lot.

There officers spoke with a woman who had went to Iron Spike Brewing Company at around 7:00 p.m. She told officers that the power locks in her vehicle didn’t work and one of the doors must not have locked properly.

She said that her purse, wallet and sunglasses were taken. Also in the purse was her social security card – which she was concerned over losing. The social security card would be recovered from park plaza along with the insurance card from the vehicle.

The last call from the weekend came Sunday morning at around 1:00. Officers were dispatched Best Western Prairie Inn at 300 S. Soangetaha Road.

The victim told officers that he was staying at the hotel when he heard noise coming outside his window and looked out to see two subjects in the parking lot attempting to break into vehicles.

He said the two ran when he went outside. He described the two subjects as approximately 17-years-old. A white male wearing a red hoodie, and the other a black male wearing a blue long sleeved shirt and glasses.

Taken was a leather Harley Davidson jacket, and a pair of Stihl safety glasses.

No arrests have been made in any of the cases, and officers are still investigating.
