President search for Carl Sandburg College down to two

The next President of Carl Sandburg College will either be vice president of academic services at Carl Sandburg College, Ellen Crowe or vice president for institutional advancement at Parkland College, Seamus Reilly. The third finalist, Tim Wynes, President of Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community College in Minnesota has dropped out. Why Wynes withdrew is still unclear, CSC made the announcement on Thursday. According to an article published by the Twin Cities Pioneer Press, Wynes tenure at the two colleges were described as “rocky.” Back in January of 2016, the faculty at Inver Hills Community College cast ballots stating they had no confidence in Wynes. The no-confidence comes from declining enrollment, high staff turnover, and cuts to student services. Wynes is also a finalist for president of Black Hawk Community College as well. In the midst of all this, Inver Hills Community College and Dakota County Tech each have pending lawsuits against the schools. The first lawsuit is in regards to an instructor and faulty union representative at Inver Hills violating free speech rights, and the second is an ongoing 2015 federal Title IX investigation into gender equity in its athletic program. In the meantime Sandburg’s board of trustees will continue deliberating its president decision between Crowe and Reilly. By the May 24th meeting, the board hopes to have a decision made on the next president.
