GPD arrest teen on felony theft charges

Galesburg police officers arrested a juvenile for felony theft after an internal investigation by the retail store she worked for.

Officers were called out to J.C. Penney’s at 1150 West Carl Sandburg Drive to investigate the theft on Sunday at 4:04 p.m.

The loss prevention officer with Penney’s told officers they were given information that a 17-year-old employee was making fraudulent returns.

Allegedly the teen had taken $3,500 in returns and stolen merchandise.

When questioned, the employee admitted to the theft and provided a written statement. That statement was turned over to police.

The teen was transported to the Knox County Jail and released to her parent.
