GHS athletic director announces resignation

District 205 is in the middle of several impending changes in administration personnel.Adding to that list Galesburg High School will now have to find a new athletic director.

AD Jeff Flater has announced he will be leaving his job effective June 30.

The District 205 website has a posted vacancy for the position as of Tuesday.

Flater in a letter to the press explaining his decision says that he longer “fits in this organization” because of “current changes and processes.”

The GHS grad, who came in from Byron High School, says he would “prefer to focus on the young adult ‘behind’ the athlete and help coaches grow in their profession.”

The reality of his current job doesn’t allow him to do that he continues.

Flater was hired in 2015 to replace former AD Ralph Henning, bringing him over two decades of experience as an athletic administrator.

The statement concludes with Flater saying, “I feel I am a better AD for having been at GHS and I hope that GHS athletics are in a better place for me having been here.”
