Northwest weather lingers on as winter won’t go away

It’s been a cold, wet spring and the National Weather Service says we have been stuck in northwest weather patterns so far this spring. Chris Miller with the National Weather Service says everything depends on jet streams – the winds that are about 5 miles off the ground that move our weather pattern. This time of year typically, our weather patterns form “right over us” which is why we see heavier rains and warmer temperatures. Miller said we’re about a month behind in the traditional weather patterns, which are normal for late February and early March. “This year, with the weather systems coming from the Northwest, it’s bringing quite a bit of cold weather with it,” Miller said. “Our jet stream is to our south. So a lot of weather systems are tracking down by St. Louis or even south of there – near the Ohio River. That’s unusual for this late in the season. That’s more of a late-February early-March weather pattern.” Miller also notes, drought concerns that lingered in the early part of the year have been eliminated thanks to all the rain and snow this spring.
