GPD assists with apprehension of IDOC escapee

On Friday, Galesburg police officers assisted with the apprehension of an escapee from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Just before 3:30 a.m., officers responded to Cottage Hospital for the call that an inmate had escaped while being treated for head trauma. He was described as a black male, approximately 250 pounds wearing a bright yellow hospital gown and leg shackles.

According to police reports the inmate, 26-year-old Prince K Uche of South Holland, Illinois, had held a knife to an IDOC officer and taken the keys from them then made his escape.

A search of the area was conducted, to which officers located Uche on East Grove Street. He was reported to be hiding behind a truck, naked, holding the suspected knife.

Officers instructed Uche to lay face down on the ground, toss away his weapon and put is hands behind his back. He complied with all of their instructions.

He told officers after being apprehended that his name was “Lucas Brown” and he did not know what he had done wrong.

The items in his possession were a knife, and a modified fork – with three of the four prongs broken off.

He was turned back over to IDOC.

According to IDOC’s website, Uche was convicted of attempted murder, armed robbery without a firearm, and for residential burglary.

His scheduled release was May of 2033.
