Heart and Soul transitions into “stewardship team”

The Galesburg On Track, Heart and Soul initiative is starting the fourth phase of their process, transitioning into a stewardship team.Project Coordinator Deb Moreno says that this team will be in part members of Heart and Soul leadership but they’re inviting anyone to join in who would like to see advance the initiative.

Moreno emphasizes that the action plan they presented to Galesburg Alderman in February was not a “set-in-stone” edict.

She says it’s a “evolving, living document” that will be continually adjusted, characterizing the plan as an ongoing “back and forth conversation.”
Moreno says that Galesburg is the largest community that has worked with the Orton Foundation and Heart and Soul, and that “we could be a model for what this could be.”

“Other communities that are much smaller have wrapped their heads around a particular project that might encapsulate the values,” Moreno says. “I think there are possibilities for that. We’ve talked about those possibilities but that’s actually going to be up to the community to decide what that would look and feel like.”

Moreno and other members of Heart and Soul leadership have been coming to recent City Council meetings to address alderman.

She says that they’ve spoken with so many members of the public that they feel a responsibility to share those concerns with the council.
