Little York woman arrested on DUI this weekend

A Little York woman was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence of alcohol following a single vehicle crash on the edge of Galesburg.

Officers responded to East Main Street, near Exit 48A of Interstate 74, for a vehicle that had struck a light pole.

According to police reports, officers made contact with the driver, 34-year-old Amanda L. Sproston. She allegedly had the smell of alcohol on her breath, spoke with a slurred speech, and her eyes were glassy.

Sproston allegedly told police she had not consumed alcohol since the night before and early hours of the morning, however she refused to give a breath test.

She did take a field-sobriety test, which reports indicate she failed. She also apparently told police she was a school bus driver and her blood-alcohol content level had to be under .04 .

Sproston was transported to the Knox County Jail for processing and issued a citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and for DUI.

Reports indicate that when arriving at the jail she became uncooperative. She was asked several times by jail staff to take a breath test to determine if she needed medical attention for alcohol poisoning, but refused all of them.

At one point Sproston allegedly yelled at the jail staff to “quit pointing a gun in my face” however it was noted that jail staff were not armed and that guns are not permitted inside the jail.
