Bond set in Monday home invasion, battery incident

A Galesburg woman is being charged with felony counts of home invasion and trespassing after an incident that occurred this week. 

33-year-old Elizabeth A. Shunick made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court with Judge James Standard Tuesday. She is facing three charges related to the incident, the most serious of which is a Class X Felony of home invasion causing injury.

Galesburg Police officers responded to the 900 block of McClure street for a battery call around 10:45 p.m. Monday. Officers made contact with the victim who allegedly told police Shunick had shouldered her door open and struck her.

Police reports state that officers identified damage to the door frame, locking mechanism, and drywall where the inside door knob had struck it.

The victim told police Shunick pushed her to a couch and held her by her throat then made a threatening statement. She then struck her in the face with a closed fist.

Officers had identified and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle Shunick allegedly left the scene in. She was arrested and transported to the Knox County Jail, where it was reported she allegedly corroborated the victim’s story.

According to court records, Judge Standard set bail at $5,000 and added that Shunick have no contact with the victim until further notice. The other charges she faces include a Class 4 Felony of Criminal Trespass to Residence and a Class A Misdemeanor of Battery.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 2nd.
