It’s an upcoming weekend catered to music lovers.

Worlds combine in a uniquely programmed concert with the Knox Galesburg Symphony Masterworks: East Meets West Saturday night, February 24th at the Orpheum Theatre. The show begins with Dosia McKay’s “Unveiling”, then Cellist Anne Suda performing E.J. Moeran’s “Cello Concerto.” The concert closes with Tchakovsky’s iconic “Symphony No. 5 in E. minor.” Tickets are available at Galesburg Orpheum Theatre website. Music lovers have another option Saturday night as well. The Knoxville Fire Department is hosting a music trivia fundraiser Saturday night starting at 6:30 pm at the Knoxville American Legion. Sign-up begins at 5:15 pm, and the cost is $100 per 8-person team.

The Amateur Karaoke Contest to benefit Easter Seals of Central Illinois continues Friday, February 23rd and Saturday, February 24th in Monmouth. Tonight the contests continues at the Varsity Club and tomorrow at First Avenue Pub from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am each night. It’s $5 to enter the contest, with a 50/50 drawing each night. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers at the finals on March 24th at the Rivoli Theatre. Next week, the contest continues at JB’s Woodshed.

Bring your appetite because there’s plenty of good food for good causes this weekend as well. The Special Olympics Basketball Game tips off at the Hawthorne Gym Saturday at 11:00 am. The Galesburg Minions will take on the Galesburg Firefighters in a charity game that benefits the Special Olympics featuring a bake sale and 50/50 drawing. Pancake month continues as the Rio Fire Department hosts a pancake and sausage supper Saturday evening from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. The department is accepting free will donations for the purchase of various equipment. If you’re more in the mood for “tex-mex”, the Abingdon Kiwanis Club is hosting a taco fundraiser Saturday night at the Abingdon American Legion from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help fund scholarships for Abingdon-Avon Seniors.

If dinner with an entertaining thrill sounds more appetizing, head to the Alexis Fieldhouse for a Mystery Dinner Theatre fundraiser to support the Bi-County Softball team. The fun event is for adults only (BYOB) with tickets for $30 that include dinner and an exciting show.  Doors open at 5:00 pm Saturday with the dinner starting at 6:00 pm.

After a day of good-food-fundraisers, work it all off on Sunday, February 25th with the Galesburg Polar Plunge for Special Olympics at Lake Storey. All proceeds collected from those brave enough to dive into the icy waters will benefit Special Olympics – a minimum of $100 needs to be raised to take the plunge. You can sign up as an individual, or as a team, and the plunge is Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
