Galesburg’s Got Talent starts search

Over the course of the next few weeks we are going to find out who Galesburg’s most talented individuals are.The Galesburg Public Art Commission is holding a talent competition they’re calling Galesburg’s Got Talent.

Round 1 of auditions are being held this evening (Thursday) at Q’s Cafe with performances starting at 6 p.m. and continuing for as long as it takes to get through all the entrants.

There will be another four audition times at different Galesburg establishments like Budde’s, The Beanhive and Sidetrax.

It’s all leading up to the main event finals scheduled for April 20 at the Orpheum Theatre.

The judges for auditions are tentatively set up with Tiffany Springer judging the first round.

Heather Norman with GPAC says that they’ve been more inventive in their fundraisers the past few years in order to support city art projects like the Carl Sandburg statue in the town square.

“We also try to look at what we can do in the future whether that be public art, sculptures or other projects or perhaps just supporting the arts in general,” Norman says. “I think Galesburg’s Got Talent kind fits in that, kind of showcasing what kind of talent we have in Galesburg.”

Norman says that GPAC had success in the past few years with a “Dancing with the Stars” type fundraiser but she says this year they were looking to do something along those lines that was a little more inclusive
