Ameren proposes tax savings to customers after federal rate decrease.

Ameren Illinois electric customers could save an average of $2.50 to $3 per month in 2018 if the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approves the company’s plan to pass savings from the recently approved federal tax cut legislation back to its customers. Natural gas customers could save an average of $1 per month and those using both electricity and natural gas could see a combined savings. According to Ameren chairman and president Richard Mark, the plan the utility filed with the ICC gives Ameren the ability to fast track the savings to customers.  If approved, Ameren customers could begin to see the savings in March. The ICC in December approved Ameren Illinois’ request to decrease delivery service rates – so in 2018, electric customers will save approximately $1.70 per month on their electric bill. In a release, Mark states that Ameren has been in contact with the ICC since the federal tax plan was passed in December to get savings returned to Ameren customers as soon as possible. Ameren currently supplies 1.2 million electric customers and 816,000 natural gas customers in Illinois.
