Area unemployment rates continue to drop

November employment numbers show decreasing unemployment in the area.

Numbers released Thursday from the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows that the Galesburg area – which includes Knox and Warren County – saw a 1% drop in unemployment.

In the month of November, Knox County came in at 4.5% unemployment – that is down a full percent from the same month last year.

Warren County saw a .7% decrease compared to last year at 3.9% , which makes it the lowest unemployment rate in the area.

The largest decrease in the area was Henry County, which saw a 1.2% decrease in unemployment, which now sits at 4.5% .

Fulton County has the highest unemployment in the area, which sits at 5.7% . That number reflects a .9% decrease from last year.

According to the IDES, non-farm payroll employment increased by 175 jobs, while gains in Leisure and Hospitality were at 150 more jobs compared to last year, and Retail increased by a 100 new jobs.

Declines were seen in the Educational and Health Services sector as well as Professional and Business Services, and Financial Activities.
